Gater.app ("we", "our", or "the extension") generates interactive quizzes from GitHub Pull Requests to help developers verify their understanding before merging code changes. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

The Gater.app processes the following information:
Quiz responses: Your answers to quiz questions and scores
Extension settings: User preferences stored locally in your browser
How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data for the following purposes:
Quiz generation: PR diff content is sent to our backend to generate relevant quiz questions using the Claude API, but it is deleted after quiz generation is completed.
Score tracking: Your quiz responses and scores are stored to track progress and provide analytics
Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymized data may be used to improve quiz quality and user experience
Data Sharing and Third Parties
Your data is handled as follows:
Backend server: Data is transmitted securely (HTTPS) to our backend
Claude API (Anthropic): PR diff content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for quiz generation. Review Anthropic's Privacy Policy
No third-party marketing: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes
No analytics tracking: We do not use third-party analytics services like Google Analytics
Data Storage and Security
Database storage: Quiz results and user data are stored in our PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon
Local storage: Extension settings and cached data are stored locally using Chrome's storage API
Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between the extension and our backend is encrypted using HTTPS
Encryption at rest: If you provide your own Claude API key, it is encrypted in our database. Other data (quiz results, scores, usernames) is stored in plaintext
Access control: Only authorized personnel have access to backend systems and database
Database security: Our PostgreSQL database is hosted on Neon with industry-standard security practices including access controls and regular backups
Data Retention
Quiz results and scores are deleted when the repository owner uninstalls the GitHub App
Cached data in your browser is cleared when you uninstall the extension
Your Rights
You have the right to:
Access: Request a copy of your stored data
Deletion: Request deletion of your quiz results and personal data
Opt-out: Uninstall the extension at any time to stop data collection
